Le monde dickensien apparaît d’emblée saturé d’inscriptions et de documents envahissant les espaces à la fois publics et privés. Le texte inscrit le monde dans le document, et nous donne à voir lettres, catalogues, inscriptions, inventaires, publicités, journaux, partitions, affiches, testaments, contrats - ces documents déterminent les intrigues et circulent, disparaissent, réapparaissent. Le texte met en scène le paradoxe de documents et d'inscriptions qui ne se laissent pas lire, et échappent - dans tous les sens du terme - aux personnages et au lecteur lui-même.
The Dickensian world is saturated with inscriptions and documents which invade public and private spaces with letters, catalogues, legal documents, bills, advertisements, newspapers, wills, contracts. These documents determine the plot and circulate, disappear, and emerge again. The text shows the paradox of overwhelming documents that will not be read, and which continuously elude the characters, and the reader himself.
